CASE STUDIES Los Angeles Eco-Village (pdf) - Located in urban Los Angeles, this community was able to finance energy efficiency measures 100% through Designed for Comfort. By upgrading from single pane French doors to dual pane glass doors, R-0 to R-30 attic insulation, and installing modern water heater controls, the owner was able to improve energy efficiency by 30%. These improvements resulted in an immediate change in comfort in the 40-unit building. Take Wing Apartments (pdf) - Take Wing is a 33-unit transitional living community located in San Diego. By installing vinyl low-e windows and new central boilers with temperature controls, the project was able to achieve more than 20% improvement in building energy use. Flanders Pointe (pdf) - Flanders point is an 82-unit project built in Orange County in the 1960’s. The upgrades included R-30 ceiling insulation, solar shade screens, insulation of hot water pipes, air conditioner tune-up, and the boilers were retrofitted with a temperature demand control module. Overall energy consumption will be reduced by 37%.
